2017: The year Forward Moves Forward

We’re not dead yet but it’s unfortunately creeping up on us. I (James) made a public statement a few months ago about my imminent departure from Forward and after the next two releases the prophecy shall finally be fulfilled. Whether Ibrahim continues or not, the label will definitely take a hiatus. I think its only prudent that we finish with two bands that truly adhere to the spirit and creativity we’ve tried to showcase since day one. Scaphe is now putting the finishing touches on their new LP and there’s been talk of releasing a Christmas/Holiday album around the snowy season of 2017 from Amos Pitsch of TENEMENT. Amos embodies to music what Forward has always tried to embody to it’s consumers. A constant yearning for something new and something true. To never allow oneself to stay stagnate or dull but instead find fascination in your surroundings and move FORWARD. Stay thirsty my friends.

We are pleased to announce that we’re now in the process of bringing to you the latest 7-inch single from Tacoma, Washington’s purveyors of post-punk, Criminal Code. The band has already produced quite an impressive catalog over the years including an LP released in 2013 on Deranged Records and a plethora of other 7-inches and splits. They’ll also be hitting the road this June with Ohio wavy punks NERVOSASso be sure to check for upcoming tour dates here and peep a show if you can.

2016: A Release Odyssey

2016 is looking up to being Forward’s best year in existence. We are very pleased to bring you news on three upcoming releases from three trios that put forth more spirit and originality into the modern punk spectrum than any other presently active bands in our opinion. Tenement’s self-titled E.P. (along with a few unreleased tracks) will be pressed as a 12-inch and split released with Canadian punk haus DERANGED records. Next, Minneapolis prog-punkers Scaphe will be hitting the studio this winter to record a follow-up L.P. to last years psych masterpiece Long Way Down. Last but not least, the noisey jazz like phenomenon known as Animal Lover (also from Minneapolis) will be putting out what we think is their best and most musically driven piece of tune to date. A true free-form shit storm. Follow us on the Facebook and Tumblr for more updates.

Debut 7-Inch single from Dusk now in the works

As you may have already heard via the facebook, we are happily in the process of bringing you the debut 7-inch single from Appleton Wisconsin’s own Dusk. The band is comprised of members from Tenement, Technicolor Teeth, Negro Spirituals, Black Thumb, Holy Sheboygan, etc. As soon as I heard the demos I was deeply drawn to the band’s blatant and beautiful mixture of country, pop, and soul music. If you’ve ever wondered what the Flying Burrito Brothers might have sounded like given a teaspoon of The Lovin’ Spoonful then I suggest you give this record a try.  Expect more updates on the release this summer.
